“Double Header: New Horizons in Perspective (With a Recent News Update) and Why My Spaceflight in 2023 Was the Vanguard of a New Era in Scientific Research in Space” with Dr. Alan Stern
In this double header presentation, Dr. Alan Stern will begin by reviewing the mission of New Horizons, the first mission to explore the Pluto system and the Kuiper Belt. He will explain how the mission was accomplished, what it revealed, and how New Horizons fits into the broader context of solar system exploration. He will conclude this first portion of the presentation with a look at upcoming plans for New Horizons in the years ahead.

The second part of the presentation will tell the story of Dr. Stern’s 2023 rookie spaceflight aboard Virgin Galactic mission 05, and why research conducted by researchers themselves flying in space will be so transformational for science in the years and decades to come.
